Lucy has been a freelance feature writer for many years for newspapers, including The Guardian, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Telegraph and The Sunday Express and many magazines.

Since becoming a full time author, she still writes the occasional feature, such as this article for The Guardian about the deeper inspiration for The Missing One:   The Perfect Uncle Who Vanished

Literary Journalism and Teaching


Lucy worked at the Times Literary Supplement , wrote a ‘New Fiction’ column for The Guardian, and has reviewed for many UK newspapers. She is now a fiction critic mostly for The Sunday Times.

Lucy tutors on the Masters degree in Creative Writing at Oxford University. She has also taught on the Bath Spa University M.A Creative Writing, and has been a guest author for the Faber Writing Academy and the Arvon Foundation. She runs one-off creative writing workshops and recently wrote a year-long How to Write A Novel column for Psychologies Magazine.

Lucy occasionally consults on advertising campaigns, writes feature film publicity materials and campaigns or PR materials for non-profit organizations.
