Hello Im looking for an agent to view my poetry work I have been offered a contributions-based contract deal where I have to pay upfront fees for the publishing to begin. I have checked reviews online about this kind of proposal and I feel like I could be digging myself a hole if i were to accept the conditions of the deal I was offered.
Im confused about a few things and would like to speak to a real literary agent who can help.

Hi – I’m not sure about poetry but when it comes to fiction NO reputable literary agent will ask you for a fee upfront. Literary agents should take a commission – usually around 15% – of whatever you are paid by a publisher. I would be very careful about anyone who does anything other than this. I wonder if someone at the Poetry Society https://poetrysociety.org.uk/ would be able to advise you? Or, the Writers and Artists Yearbook may have advice on poetry agents. And I just came across this article which you might find helpful http://www.writersdigest.com/whats-new/i-need-an-agent-for-my-poetry Good luck!
